Back to Project

Project Description

CEI provided the Massachusetts Department of Fish and Game, Division of Ecological Resources (DER) stream crossing assessments for a culvert on Baptist Corner Road in Ashfield, MA. Work included performing borings and soil analysis, delineation of resource area(s), identification of key stream features including bankfull width, fluvial geomorphic features, pebble counts, location of thalweg, riffles, notable drops and notable riverbed substrate features, topographic survey of each site including the resource areas and stream characteristics previously identified, a hydrologic and hydraulic (H&H) analysis including HEC-RAS analysis, a recommendation of structure type, preliminary opinion of probable costs, and technical summary report.

In addition, CEI attended project kickoff meeting(s), coordinated and oversaw sub-consultant work (survey and borings), participated in project conference calls and prepared for, attended, and facilitated training sessions to provide local municipalities hands-on training and technical assistance.

In the subsequent design phase, CEI provided interim and final designs, environmental permitting in the form of a Massachusetts Wetland Protection Act (WPA) Notice of Intent (NOI) filing, and MassDOT Chapter 85 submissions. Additional training for municipal staff included presentations on appropriate structure selection considerations and field application of the information presented at three case study sites.
