Water booster pumping station - merrimac, ma

BACK TO PROJECTS

Project Description

CEI was retained by the Town of Merrimac for design, permitting and construction phase work associated with the creation of three new pressure zones.  Select areas of the Town have low water pressure and the MassDEP issued an administrative consent order requiring the Town provide these areas with a minimum pressure of 35 psi or more, in order to protect public health. CEI worked closely with Town representatives including selectmen, Director of Public Works and water operators to develop the conceptual design of these pressure zones to provide increased water pressure in select areas without adversely impacting other areas of the system.  The conceptual design involved evaluation of water demands and water system hydraulics, identification of sites to locate pump stations and development of conceptual layout for the pump stations.  Design and permitting services included completion of topographic survey, geotechnical investigations, preparation of contract specifications and drawings, coordination with the MassDEP and completion of the MassDEP permit requesting approval to construct.  The final design consists of three 12-ft by 27-ft (interior dimensions) above grade precast concrete package pumping stations with fiber cement siding and gable truss roof (three separate locations).  The booster pump skids include two 250 gpm in-line vertical multi-stage pumps, VFD, pump controls and appurtenances.  The facilities include 8-inch and 6-inch ductile iron piping and appurtenances, heating, ventilation, instrumentation and electrical equipment (with emergency generator), associated site work, approximately 1,200 feet of 12-inch ductile iron water main and appurtenances (Union Street) and approximately 800 feet of 8 inch ductile iron water main and appurtenances (Hillside Avenue). CEI prepared and submitted the Drinking Water State Revolving Fund (DWSRF) application for this project under an extremely tight time frame to insure the Town secure the necessary funding for this project.  CEI will also be providing bid phase and construction phase services including DWSRF grant administration.
