UConn Senior Design Sponsorship

April 30th, 2018

The CEI Team outreach often goes beyond individual projects and can include statewide initiatives. CEI is proud to be part of the newly established Connecticut Brownfields Initiative (CBI) run by the University of Connecticut (UCONN). CEI will be represented on the CBI Advisory Board by Mr. Sebastian Amenta, Program Manager for CEI’s ongoing Brownfields assessment and remediation work with the City of New Britain and a CEI Senior Civil/Geotechnical Engineer. In partnership with the CT Department of Economic and Community Development and industry leaders like CEI, the CBI will bring assistance to help CT communities leverage funds and expertise to initiate Brownfields assessment, remediation and revitalization activities. As part of this, UCONN will develop an educational program for students developing a curriculum focused on grant writing, regulatory and liability issues, investigation and remediation. This will be combined with real-life project experience working with municipalities, regulators and partners like CEI. US Army Corps of Engineers - New England District recently gave CEI approval to allow UCONN students to use the Atlantic Shellfish formerly used defense site (FUDS) hazardous waste site remediation assignment as a senior research project where students are given the opportunity to review project background material, complete research tasks and meet periodically with CEI staff to present and discuss their findings.
